'This makes us all look so ugly,' Coco Gauff and Jessica Pegula react to an ‘ugly af’ animated illustration by the USTA ahead of Australian Open

After months of anticipation, the first round of the 2024 Australian Open, the first Grand Slam of the year, has kicked off today.

The United States Tennis Association (USTA) posted an animated poster on their social media pages today, featuring the seeded American players at the US Open.

Unfortunately, the post did not go down well with some of their players, like Coco Gauff and Jessica Pegula, who disseminated the animation on social media.

Bruh…. what even is this . Coco Gauff tweeted on her X account while retweeting USTA’s edit.

Some fans pointed out that the style of animation has been copied from a very popular animated American cartoon series named Wild Thronberrys.

Hahahahhaha we are ugly af . Jessica Pegula replied to it

To that, Coco replied that she is aware of the fact but thinks that they look awful in it and would have preferred a Bratz style of animation being used.

Ya’ll I know it is a cartoon show but I think I would prefer to be drawn as a Bratz art style and not this. This makes us all look so ugly. She wrote.

Many fans also started trolling the post, pointing out that the other players looked funny as well. As a result, USTA eventually deleted the tweet after a while when the negative comments were getting out of hand.

I’m scared to look at Frances. A fan wrote for example, talking about Frances Tiafoe’s look in the post.

Coco Gauff and Jessica Pegula are set to team up for the mixed doubles event at the 2024 Australian Open

Coco Gauff and Jessica Pegula make a pretty good doubles duo, and they will continue playing in the event together at the 2024 Australian Open.

They will play their first doubles match of the tournament against Diane Parry and Clara Burel, the dynamic duo from France.

On the other hand, Coco and Jessica also have their singles matches to take care of. Coco will face Slovakia’s Anna Karolína Schmiedlová in the first round, while Jessica Pegula will face Rebecca Marino in the first round.

They are the fourth and fifth seeds in the tournament, respectively, and also two very strong contenders to lift the trophy this season.

In the past, they have withdrawn from the doubles event to focus on their respective singles matches. It will be interesting to note if the duo repeats the same thing this time.
