A couple of former Tennessee Vols baseball teammates played in the MLB Spring Breakout game on Friday between the New York Mets and the Washington Nationals.
Mets outfielder Drew Gilbert and Nationals third baseman Trey Lipscomb were teammates at Tennessee from 2020 to 2022.
Gilbert was a first round selection by the Houston Astros in 2022 (he was traded to the Mets last summer for future Hall of Fame RHP Justin Verlander). Lipscomb, meanwhile, was selected by the Nationals in the third round of the 2022 MLB Draft.
The Spring Breakout is a series of games taking place across the league this week that features some of the top MLB prospects.

Gilbert went 0-for-2 in the game, which was won by the Mets, with a run scored.
Lipscomb went 0-for-1 with a walk and he also scored a run.

Lipscomb and Gilbert both have a legitimate chance to reach the big leagues in 2024. And if they do, they'll be division rivals in the NL East.
Update:
Former Vols RHP Blade Tidwell, who was also teammates with Gilbert and Lipscomb, also played in the game on Friday. Tidwell was a second round pick by the Mets in 2022.
Bit of a rough inning for Blade Tidwell, but he kept the damage to one run, and induced this star- prospect studded double play. pic.twitter.com/BbZPiLi9eV
